What is ROOTED SINGING®?

ROOTED SINGING® is a new method for singing lessons and holistic voice liberation, but also a highly individualized and profound experience for all those who engage with it. As the name suggests, ROOTS play an absolutely central role: A true Rooted Singer aspires to grow beyond themselves from their own strengthened roots. Non-judgmental observation and the ability to sharpen intuitive self-help through abstraction and conscious focus form the necessary foundation for development. Once this takes root and is internalized, it can continue to flourish in the long term.

What’s different compared to conventional vocal coaching?

This training is ultimately a course in self-employment for the field of vocal coaching. It can be completed with a certification seminar and teaches a holistic method based on a sound and reproducible technique. That means your personal experience and the development of your individual strengths play major roles, no matter where you come from or where you want to go. This applies even to those who already have a degree or training, as well as those who are just starting out. ROOTED SINGING® participants come from a very broad spectrum of sectors, from singing and personal development to specialties in health (mental, physical, and/or spiritual), prevention, wellness, and spirituality. Your opportunities to position yourself and specialize as a coach in the ROOTED SINGING® world are therefore extremely diverse. Individuality is actively encouraged at ROOTED SINGING®. What does & "holistic approach" to singing or "holistic teaching" mean? What is different from normal singing lessons? How long does the training take? Which singing styles are covered?

Who is ROOTED SINGING® for?

The course is suitable for anyone seeking a holistic approach to vocal liberation – either for themselves or as a coach. But that said, anyone can sing and use the benefits of singing!

Who can take part?

There are no restrictions for participating in the course. Completing the certification seminar is not mandatory.

Is there an age limit?

Not exactly. Following the material does require a certain level of maturity. Our official recommendation is 18 years and older.

How do I know this is the right course for me?

We can clarify any unanswered questions during a non-binding introductory meeting. A free trial version is also available to anyone interested.

Do I have to be able to read music?

No. The basics of reading music are taught in the course, but they are neither a prerequisite nor an essential component.

How often do lessons take place – and in which language?

The course is self-directed. It’s structured around a syllabus and accompanied by 3 texts and workbooks as well as the online portal, which includes over 120 videos. The lessons can therefore be completed individually and independently of location (and repeated at any time). The language of instruction is German or English. The most important content is also available in Swiss German.

Can I use my own instrument during the course?

Every musical ability is welcomed and encouraged! Accompanying yourself on an instrument is therefore absolutely permitted. That said, be sure to give enough space and attention to the intensive (focused) work on your voice. A piano is an advantage for orientation in some tutorials and exercises, but by no means compulsory.

I have no prior singing experience. Can I learn to sing here?

Yes, this course is suitable for anyone who wants to work on their voice in a holistic way– regardless of previous experience.

I have no talent – should I still try it?

If you like to sing and it does you good, then yes, ABSOLUTELY! Talent is of course an advantage if you want to succeed at singing in some respect, but it’s not a mandatory requirement for this training. Also, and more importantly, everyone can sing and can improve. The ROOTED SINGING® movement aims to integrate the power and the unifying effect of singing into our culture and using it to advantage again.

What can I gain from ROOTED SINGING®?

Whether you want to take part for your career path as a vocal coach or for yourself personally, this training offers you a wide range of know-how with a holistic approach, which can help you in many different ways. This course will help you personally toward a clearer self-image and achievement of your vision. In addition, we’ll use the voice as a direct means to real self-liberation and lasting inner peace. Certification also enables you to teach students independently after completing ROOTED SINGING®.

How many singing lessons do I need to sing well?

This varies from person to person and depends on your current self-perception, current abilities and, of course, the frequency and quality of your work.

I have singing experience. Am I good enough? What level do I need to be?

This training is suitable for all levels. Use your experience to bring the information here– whether new or familiar to you – into overview for yourself. Let yourself be guided by the idea of "how helpful" something is for you instead of a strict dichotomy of "right/wrong."

How open to specific genres is the ROOTED SINGING® method?

The current course includes pop, soul, RnB, gospel, meditative singing (mantras), and can (in fact, should) be expanded with your own repertoire. If you complete the training with the aim of coaching, it is recommended that you also remain open to what your clients need and request with respect to repertoire.

Are there technical requirements for taking part? Do I need my own microphone? Do I need a microphone at all?

You’ll need a smartphone (or computer), some type of medium for audio and video recordings (for self-analysis). This might be a smartphone with apps, headphones and an integrated microphone, or a more professional version: a microphone, a computer with a music program, an interface, studio headphones, and optional speakers). If the simpler option is enough for you, you don't necessarily need a microphone. However, as singing is an important part of your life (and is becoming more and more so), sooner or later you should treat yourself to good equipment (for live and/or studio work), including a really good microphone.

Can I record the singing lessons?

Audio and video material useful for study is already available in high-quality versions and can be used at any time during the enrollment period. The distribution of lesson material is prohibited without the individual, express permission of the author. If additional face-to-face lessons are booked, these can be recorded for personal use.

Should I record myself practicing?

Yes, this is an integral part of the training and the development of self-assessment and self-help. We recommend you make not only audio but also video recordings.

Should I practice if I’m hoarse or otherwise ill?

The voice is very vulnerable when hoarse or when you’re sick and should be treated with great care. You’ll get further tips on correct voice care and preparation during the course.

Do I have to practice?

Pay attention to your voice on a holistic level. Enjoy this expedition into the world of your voice as much as possible. Experiment and try out the things you’ll learn as often as possible throughout the day – observe, experience, and gather as much important information about yourself and your voice as possible. Be worth it to yourself and allow yourself to take time for your growth and self-development. Enjoy investing in your physical, mental, and emotional abilities and experience practicing as "me time.” Remember you deserve to be one of the highest priorities in your life and on your calendar. This responsibility is in your hands and you need to schedule and maintain plenty of time for this priority. You’ll find that certain exercises fit into the rhythm of your life. For example, you can practice different types of breathing as you first wake up, explore your registers while showering, work on mastering your skills or songs while cooking, and dedicate yourself to your vision and goal management while walking in the woods... Find out what works for you.

What if I'm not good enough? How long will it take me to improve?

If you start out feeling this way, you need to work on your good-bad thinking and learn to differentiate in a more versatile way. What don't you like about your abilities? And what do you like? How could you use what you already have to get a better grip on individual weaknesses? How much real dedication, work, and time are you willing to invest in yourself and your passion? How can you strengthen your strengths and let yourself and your voice shine? Can you even recognize and appreciate the beauty in your voice right now? If you love it, there will always be something that can get you singing. You’ll find yourself looking for ways to encourage and develop yourself further. We learn as longas we live and as long as we live, we can grow! Just as it makes no sense to claim (or think) that you will ever be "finished" with life while living, it makes no sense to “complete” your vocal and self-development during your lifetime.

Are live performances part of the training?

Not part of the training program itself. But keep in mind that you yourself are your coach in this course. You yourself are also your most important student, the first person you want to help progress, to the best of your ability. Remember to "Be a good coach and a true friend to yourself!" Make sure you develop the musical connection that you want and can (and should) make use of. This type of self-development work is an important part of the course and will be covered several times in different sections.

How should I prepare for each lesson?

Gather your three texts and workbooks, access the online material, get in your singing location, and leave yourself plenty of time. From there, the syllabus will guide you through the learning units.

How can I register?

You can register via the homepage using the "Register for the course" button or via email to info@rootedsinging.ch. As soon as you receive confirmation of registration, you are in the course and will receive the texts and workbooks, the syllabus, and access to the online learning material.

What payment methods do you take? Can I buy the course as a gift?

You’ll receive an invoice after your registration. You can pay at the monthly rate during the training period or with a one-time payment (see course fees). It is possible to pay for the course in full for another person. Coupons for a partial amount of the training are also possible, but cannot be redeemed for the monetary value and expire if they are not redeemed (due to failure to register for the training and pay the remaining costs). Costs(full or partial amounts) will not be refunded.

I can’t afford the training. Are there discounts? Can I book individual lessons only?

The first prospective ROOTED SINGING® Vocal Coaches are currently in training. The graduates are expected to start offering one-on-one lessons in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria starting at the end of 2023.

I can't make the scheduled coaching appointment. Can the lesson be rescheduled? What happens in the event of illness?

If additional face-to-face lessons are booked and cannot be attended due to illness or accident, the lesson can be canceled or postponed up to 24 hours before the start with a doctor’s note.

I can’t complete the course workload within the specified time. Can I extend the enrollment period (including online access)?

Yes, it is possible to extend the enrollment period by paying an extension fee.

Can I complete the training exclusively ONLINE, WITHOUT in-person time, such as via Zoom?

The training is basically self-directed. You yourself will carry out assessments by analyzing your own recorded material. The curriculum includes various helps for this purpose. However, students can of course ask questions at any time. The optional certification is completed with an online test and tasks submitted via video.

Can I bring additional people to my lesson as guests or share the course(or parts of it) with others?

You’re meant to use the knowledge you gain and your new skills expressly for your work with students. In this context, you may print out the content explicitly mentioned and made available for this purpose (such as the range sheet) and pass it on to your students. Otherwise, the content of the books as well as the online material (videos, audios, sheet music, texts, etc.) are protected by copyright and are reserved for registered students. They may not be passed on, shared with others or posted online without express permission.
